Southern Gal Biscuits 2 cups (480 ml) flour 4 teaspoons (20 ml) baking powder 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) salt 2 T (30 ml) sugar 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) cream of tartar 1/2 cup (120 ml) shortening 3/4 cup (180 ml) milk 1 egg Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and cream of tartar. Add shortening and blend in with pastry blender or two knives until crumbly. Add milk and egg; stir to stiff dough. Roll out to 1-inch (2.5-cm) thickness. Cut biscuits with biscuit or cookie cutter and arrange on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 450 F (230 C) for 10-15 minutes. Makes 6-8 biscuits.
